Turkish Authorities Will Not Allow Unrest in the Streets, Erdogan Says

Amid clashes between the opposition and police in Istanbul, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that the authorities will not allow "unrest to emerge in the streets."

"Not recognizing court decisions is an open challenge to the rule of law. It is impossible to turn a blind eye to such irresponsibility. We will never allow the streets to be shaken, and the peace of our people, especially our brothers in Istanbul, to be disturbed. We will strictly fulfill our obligations for the uninterrupted functioning of judicial and administrative processes," Erdogan said in a message addressed to the nation.

It is noteworthy that Istanbul's 45th Court has declared the results of the Republican People's Party (RPP) Istanbul branch's congress, held in the fall of 2023, invalid. As a precautionary measure, branch leader Ozgur Celik and other leadership members have been suspended from their positions. Concurrently, the party has dismissed Gursel Tekin, who was appointed as the temporary head of the RPP by the court. Additionally, clashes have occurred between opposition members and the police.
