Indian Prime Minister to Skip UN General Assembly Session
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not attend the upcoming UN General Assembly session set to take place in the United States this month. This information was released by the Times of India.
It is reported that this decision comes amid rising tensions between India and the United States over customs tariffs. Instead of the Prime Minister, India will be represented by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
It is notable that U.S. President Donald Trump had imposed 'punitive' tariffs on India in response to the country's purchase of oil from Russia amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
The 80th session of the UN General Assembly is scheduled to occur from September 23 to 29.
