Turkey's Most Important Water Source Has Dried Up: Several Cities Face Serious Water Issues
One of the crucial water sources in Turkey's Aegean region, the Gediz River, has completely dried up in several areas due to severe drought. This has been reported by ermenihaber.am.
The Girdes Reservoir, which serves as the main source of drinking water for the city of Izmir, is also on the brink of drying up, while the city of Manisa is experiencing a scarcity of water resources, with groundwater levels reaching 500 meters deep.
Experts indicate that besides the aforementioned reservoir, there is a significant shortage of water in all reservoirs in the region, which threatens not only the supply of drinking water but also the agriculture and industry of the area. They stress the urgent need to adopt water conservation practices and new irrigation systems. Otherwise, just like in Izmir, water supply interruptions and severe economic consequences will be unavoidable in Manisa as well.
