Abbas Araqchi Issues Statement
The Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has announced that the armed forces of the country will defend it from Israeli attacks.
“Iran has the legal and legitimate right to respond to this aggression, in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter,” said Araqchi. He emphasized the obligation of the UN Security Council to take “immediate measures to prevent the violation of international peace and security resulting from the blatant aggression by the Zionist regime against Iran.”
Iran urges the President and members of the Security Council to take action on this matter as soon as possible.
Iran expects that UN member states, as well as all regional countries, “will immediately condemn this criminal aggression and take urgent and joint actions to counter this dangerous adventure, which undoubtedly poses an unprecedented threat to global peace and security.”
“The aggressive actions of the Zionist regime against Iran could not have been carried out without coordination and permission from the United States. Therefore, the U.S. government, as the main supporter of this regime, will also bear responsibility for the dangerous consequences of the Zionist regime's adventures,” the statement said.
It is noteworthy that the Israeli army struck Iran overnight. As a result of the attack, Major General Hossein Salami, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed.
