NATO Secretary General Discusses When Russia May Attack the Alliance

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has stated that Russia remains the biggest threat to the alliance, but the organization is also considering dangers posed by other countries, reports Interfax.

“In the long term, Russia is undoubtedly the main threat. However, NATO was created not just to counter the USSR,” Rutte said at the Chatham House think tank in London.

He is confident that by increasing military production, Russia will reach a level in five years that would allow it to attack NATO.

Rutte emphasized that while NATO prioritizes attention to the Euro-Atlantic region, the alliance must also be aware of developments occurring in the Indo-Pacific region. He expressed concern over the growing defensive capabilities of China, which, according to Rutte, may soon surpass the naval strength of the United States.

He concluded that the U.S., Europe, Canada, and other NATO allies do not allocate sufficient resources for defense. In contrast, China is reportedly producing a large amount of weapons in collaboration with North Korea, Iran, and Russia. Rutte noted that these countries always act in concert.
