Uranium Enrichment is a Red Line in Talks with the U.S., Says Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister
The Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal Affairs, Kazem Gharibabadi, a member of the Iranian negotiating team, has stated that uranium enrichment is a red line for Iran in negotiations with the United States, according to Mehr news agency.
Gharibabadi made this statement during a meeting of the parliamentary commission on national security, reported the commission's head, Ebrahim Rezaei.
“The Deputy Foreign Minister said that the lifting of sanctions should be done in a way that benefits the Iranian people economically and should not be merely a symbolic gesture,” the lawmaker cited Gharibabadi.
“Iran also emphasizes its right to uranium enrichment, and this issue is considered one of the red lines of the Islamic Republic of Iran's negotiations,” Gharibabadi said.
The first round of indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. took place in Muscat, the capital of Oman, facilitated by Omani mediators. Yesterday, negotiations held in Rome, Italy, constituted the second round of these indirect discussions.
