Zelensky Again Changes Chief of General Staff of Armed Forces
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed decrees to replace the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, appointing Andrey Hnatov to the position. Previously, the Armed Forces' General Staff was headed by Anatoliy Hrynovych.
Zelensky's decree mentions the appointment of “Andrey Viktorovych Hnatov as the Chief of the General Staff.” Since February 9, this position has been held by Hrynovych, who took over the leadership of the Ukrainian army’s General Staff after Sergey Shaptala’s resignation in February 2024.
In May 2024, the Supreme Court of the DNR sentenced the former commander of Ukraine's 36th Separate Marine Brigade, Andrey Hnatov, in absentia, finding him guilty of the murder of civilians. Hnatov was subsequently sentenced to 28 years in prison.
