White House Considers Easing Sanctions Against Russia: Reuters
The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has instructed the State Department and the Treasury Department to prepare a list of sanctions that could be eased during negotiations with Moscow, Reuters reports, citing sources.
According to the agency, U.S. authorities are considering the option of partially lifting sanctions as part of broader diplomatic efforts to improve relations with Russia and find avenues to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
“The agencies are currently developing proposals to lift restrictions on specific companies and individuals, including some Russian oligarchs,” Reuters reports.
Earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Busant had suggested the possibility of economic concessions to Moscow, depending on the progress of negotiations. President Trump also stated on February 26 that sanctions against Russia could be “eased at some point.”
