Western Actions Pressure Armenia to Dismantle Traditional Ties with Russia, Says Russian Foreign Ministry
Russian-Armenian relations are undergoing a complicated period due to the actions of the West, which has increased pressure on Yerevan and incited the erosion of ties with Moscow. This announcement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in response to media inquiries.
“Russian-Armenian relations are experiencing a difficult phase, largely as a result of Western actions that have intensified pressure on Armenia over the past year, prompting the dismantling of traditional ties with Russia and imposing value benchmarks. Unfortunately, Armenia responded positively to unsupported promises from the U.S. and the EU to replace Russia with those partners. The CSTO is the cornerstone of Armenia's security, while membership in the EAEU is the key to its economic prosperity,” the statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.
The Russian diplomatic agency also noted that Moscow has repeatedly informed its Armenian counterparts that neither Washington nor Brussels truly consider the fate and interests of their partners.
“In Yerevan, the events that took place in Georgia at the end of last year could not go unnoticed,” the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement concluded.
