Georgia's Opposition Calls on the EU
The joint call from political forces to the EU states that the four largest opposition parties and coalitions in Georgia have urged the European Union to declare the "self-proclaimed Bidzina regime" illegitimate. The letter is addressed to the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the foreign ministers of EU member states.
The appeal mentions that Georgia is facing an unprecedented political crisis that requires immediate action from the European Union. "We, the political parties and coalitions of Georgia, together with civil society organizations and protesters, agree that the only solution to the current crisis is to hold new elections under an improved electoral system with a politically balanced electoral administration and neutral state institutions," the letter states.
