Under What Conditions Will Iran Engage in Dialogue with Trump?
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif has announced that the Iranian government is ready to initiate dialogue with the administration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump. “Instead of exerting pressure on Iran, Western countries should take positive steps. The nuclear deal was a unique example of such a step, and the West should strive to revive it. For this, specific practical measures must be implemented—political, legal decisions, and investment decisions from which Iran could benefit. If Trump decides to take such steps, Iran will be ready for dialogue, which will benefit both Tehran and Washington,” Zarif wrote in a column for Foreign Affairs magazine.
Zarif is considered a politician with a pro-Western stance in Iran. From 2013 to 2021, he served as Iran’s Foreign Minister and played a direct role in the development and signing of the 2015 nuclear agreement.
