Simonyan and Two Other MPs Propose Changes to Armenia's National Anthem
The Speaker of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, along with two other members of the "Civil Contract" faction, Sisak Gabrielyan and Taguhi Ghazaryan, have proposed amendments to the law on the national anthem of the Republic of Armenia.
The proposed changes suggest rewriting the text of the Republic of Armenia's state anthem in the following version:
Our Fatherland, free, independent,
Which has lived through the ages,
Its sons still call out
For a free, independent Armenia:
The same death is everywhere,
A man must die just once,
But blessed is he who dies
For the freedom of his nation.
Behold, brother, here is a flag
That I made with my own hands,
Nights I spent without sleep,
Cleansed with my tears.
Look at it, three colors
A sacred sign,
Let it stand against the enemy,
Let Armenia always rise!
The proposed regulation aims to define and publish the official version of the national anthem of the Republic of Armenia, as well as to specify the contexts for the full and abbreviated versions of the anthem to be used.
