Russia's Warning to NATO
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that Moscow cannot ignore NATO's long-standing open aggression towards Russia. Russia warns NATO that it will not be able to sit back and wait calmly across the ocean in case of aggressive actions by the alliance or its individual member states towards Moscow. The response from Moscow will be proportionate.
This statement was made by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with RIA Novosti. He stated, “Our opponents should not be confused. Proportional response measures will be taken in the event of aggressive actions by NATO or individual member states against our country, fully in accordance with the sovereign right to self-defense enshrined in the UN Charter and the use of any means necessary to ensure our own security. No one will sit back and wait, neither across the Atlantic Ocean nor beyond the English Channel,” Lavrov noted.
He highlighted that Moscow cannot ignore NATO's long-expressed aggressive policy towards Russia. Lavrov reminded that Russia is depicted as “the most significant and immediate threat to security” in the alliance’s strategies, while NATO leadership continuously speaks about an impending attack from Russia on any NATO member country in the coming years.
Simultaneously, the militarization of Europe is rapidly progressing, with NATO forces developing offensive operations against Russia during exercises. He pointed out that if long-range Western weaponry is used by Kyiv to strike deep into Russian territory, it will signify that not only Ukraine but also NATO countries are admittedly fighting against Russia, no longer hiding the facts of mercenaries, volunteers, and instructors under foreign flags.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that NATO countries are discussing not only the possibility of supplying long-range weaponry to Ukraine but are also effectively becoming involved in the Ukrainian conflict. He noted that such intervention would change the nature of the conflict, and Russia would have to take appropriate measures in response to the emerging threats.
