Putin's Bodyguards Accidentally Revealed Data on His Movements
Le Monde journalists have reported on how they managed to track the movements of global leaders through the Strava fitness application, which is used by the bodyguards of political figures. The individuals under investigation include U.S. President Joe Biden, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Vladimir Putin.
Journalist Denis Kataev from Dozhd drew attention to the publication. Strava is a popular application among cyclists and runners that allows users to share information about their physical activities. Among other features, the app records the user's location.
Le Monde discovered that at least six employees of the Federal Security Service (FSB) had used the service while accompanying Russian President Putin on trips. According to information posted on Strava by FSB employees, details emerged regarding Putin's meeting with Kim Jong-un in September 2023. Information about this event was kept secret for a long time, but just a few days before the meeting, Putin's bodyguard Pavel shared his running activities in Blagoveshchensk. The meeting ultimately took place near the city at the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
