Cancellation of Meeting with Azerbaijan Heavily Weighed on Armenian Authorities: ‘Hraparak’
The newspaper ‘Hraparak’ reports that the cancellation of the meeting between the presidents of the Armenian and Azerbaijani parliaments, scheduled to take place in Geneva, has heavily weighed on the Armenian authorities. During a meeting with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonian expressed his concern, stating that despite having engaged in three days of discussions with his Azerbaijani counterpart prior to the Geneva visit at a summit in Dushanbe, he was not even hinted about the cancellation of the meeting. Simonian noted, ‘The Armenian side only learned about it after arriving in Geneva from the organization’s secretariat.’ Chungong reassured that the Azerbaijani side does not consider the window for communication to be closed.
It should be recalled that on October 14, the scheduled meeting between Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonian and Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Speaker Sahiba Gafarova in Geneva was cancelled.
