OPCW Voids Concern Over Israel's Use of White Phosphorus
The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has expressed concern regarding Israel's use of white phosphorus.
Vladimir Tarabrin, Russia’s permanent representative at the OPCW and ambassador to the Netherlands, stated to reporters today that numerous developing countries have raised serious concerns about Israel's use of white phosphorus, which may be classified as a prohibited substance.
“Many developing countries are seriously worried about the situation in the Middle East and Israel's use of white phosphorus, which could fall under the category of banned substances. Although it is not officially prohibited and is considered a means of warfare, we cannot agree with that,” Tarabrin said following the meeting.
The situation at the Israel-Lebanon border has escalated since the launch of Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The Israeli army and Lebanese Hezbollah fighters are targeting each other's positions daily along the border regions.
