Are You Sure Azerbaijan Won't Attack Armenia After the Peace Agreement? A Question for the Civil Contract Party

During parliamentary briefings, responding to the question of whether they are sure that Azerbaijan will not attack Armenia after the "Peace Agreement," the Secretary of the Civil Contract faction, Arthur Hovhannisyan, stated, "No, we are not sure." He continued, "Were you sure that Russia, being a security guarantor for Ukraine, would one day attack it? You are asking questions for which no one on the planet has answers. We live in a changing world, and no one knows what will happen tomorrow. We are doing everything to ensure that Armenian citizens can live peacefully in their region. As for what will happen later, we cannot engage in conjectures here. We deal with real politics and do everything to avoid any escalation risks."

He also noted that the Prime Minister of Armenia, as the Supreme Commander during the war, may possess certain information, some of which could lead to criminal proceedings while others may not.

Addressing the Foreign Minister's statement that military actions cannot be ruled out, the ruling party lawmaker emphasized that no one has declared the elimination of the threat of war. "No one has said that there is no risk of war; all risks are not eliminated. As long as we do not have a 'Peace Agreement,' we should not forget about these risks, and we need to talk about them."

The Prime Minister addressed the provisions of the "Peace Agreement" several times yesterday. He mentioned that public disclosure of these provisions is currently impossible as we are in the negotiation phase and there is a regime in place. Many of the queries raised by the opposition do not reflect reality. We have shared all possible information with our public," he added.

Arthur Hovhannisyan also referred to the statements made by the opposition leader during a live broadcast on public television, noting, "Yesterday, the opposition leader claimed that Armenia allegedly reached an agreement on the 'Zangezur Corridor' based on the November 9 statement."

"This was said by the opposition leader whose narratives completely reference Azerbaijani demands. Let’s note that it is Azerbaijan that claims that Armenia has taken such an obligation, as reiterated by the opposition, and it is also said by the 'criminal' cleric who has assumed leadership in the opposition. This is mockery; this individual engages in anti-national, anti-state activities," said Hovhannisyan.

Tsovinar Vardanyan added that the opposition has taken on the role of Azerbaijan's spokesperson.
