Harris Appeals to American-Armenian Voters: Statement
In conjunction with the anniversary of Armenia's independence, Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate for U.S. President and current Vice President, has released a message directed towards the American-Armenian community. In her statement, Harris expressed support for the right of 'Armenians displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh to safely return to their homes.' The Democratic candidate also noted, 'We must never forget the Armenian Genocide,' and is committed to achieving 'a lasting peace that respects the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Armenia and its neighbors.'
This information was provided by the Central Office of the Armenian Cause Bureau of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF).
Commenting on Vice President Harris's statement, Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the Armenian Cause Office in Washington, remarked: 'As Vice President, Kamala Harris had a whole year to act on the right to the return of Artsakh through a U.N. Security Council resolution under U.S. leadership; however, she only began to speak about it (to American-Armenians, not to U.N. member states) just 40 days before the elections, when Armenian voters could be decisive in key swing states. Notably, Vice President Harris, whose administration has armed Azerbaijan's genocidal blockade and aggression against Artsakh, did not raise a finger or even speak out against Azerbaijan's aggression in 2023. Even at the level of campaign rhetoric, she has not uttered a word about halting U.S. military aid and arms to Azerbaijan or holding Baku accountable for its crimes in any way. Political figures—presidential candidates, etc.—cannot position themselves as friends of the Armenians while simultaneously refusing to hold Aliyev accountable or failing to curb Azerbaijani aggression.'
