Total Military Casualties of Ukraine and Russia Exceed One Million, According to WSJ

According to the Wall Street Journal, since the start of the large-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, the total military casualties of Ukraine and Russia—both killed and wounded—have surpassed one million. The publication, citing secret data from the Ukrainian government, estimates that Ukraine's combat losses comprise 80,000 killed and 400,000 wounded. In contrast, Russian losses, according to estimates from Western intelligence services, amount to 200,000 killed and 400,000 wounded. British military intelligence has provided similar assessments regarding Russian casualties.

Additionally, the UK Ministry of Defense has reported a decline in the recruitment rates of new Russian military personnel. "In 2024, the recruitment rates for Russian soldiers have decreased compared to the rates achieved in 2023. By the end of 2023, Russian officials claimed that the Ministry of Defense was recruiting about 1,600 individuals daily. However, this year, according to published data, that figure stands at approximately 1,000 people per day. These numbers are likely somewhat exaggerated," the British military authorities stated on the social media platform 'X'.

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office has announced an investigation into the possible execution of a Ukrainian serviceman by Russian soldiers in Novogrudovka (Donetsk region). "At this moment, we are trying to determine exactly when this incident occurred, as the location is somewhat clarified. We are working to identify the victim as well as all those involved in the commission of this crime," said Denis Lisenko, head of the department of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office, during a national television marathon.

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets has appealed to the UN and the Red Cross, demanding to document human rights violations by Russia.
