CSTO Secretary General Makes Statement Regarding Armenia
The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) still views Armenia as an equal partner and is ready for dialogue on all issues. This was stated by CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov.
“As you know, representatives of Armenia did not participate in the mentioned events (CSTO military exercises). Nevertheless, we still regard Armenia as an equal partner in the organization’s format and are ready for dialogue with our Yerevan partners on the entire spectrum of current issues,” he noted.
It is worth mentioning that today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated at the Second Armenian Global Summit that “we have frozen our membership in the CSTO not only because the CSTO has not fulfilled its security obligations towards Armenia, but also because the CSTO creates threats to Armenia’s security, further existence, sovereignty, and statehood.” He indicated that there is much discussion about whether Armenia will attempt or consider returning to the CSTO.
