Trump's Plan for Ukraine Includes Demilitarized Zone and Rejection of NATO Membership
The Republican presidential candidate in the United States, Donald Trump, has proposed a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine that includes the establishment of a demilitarized zone and Ukraine's rejection of NATO membership, according to Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance. This was reported by Interfax.
Vance stated that all parties involved in the conflict want it to come to an end. “So, I think this is how it works. Trump sits down and tells the Russians, the Ukrainians, and the Europeans, ‘Guys, you need to understand what peace settlement looks like,’” Vance said during the Shawn Ryan Show.
“And that will probably be very similar to the current demarcation line between Russia and Ukraine; it will be heavily fortified,” he added.
At the same time, the vice presidential candidate noted that Ukraine maintains its sovereignty, while Russia receives guarantees of neutrality from Kyiv. “It (Ukraine) does not join NATO, does not join any allied institution,” Vance emphasized.
He also mentioned that Germany and other countries should fund Ukraine’s reconstruction. Vance highlighted that Trump has previously demonstrated his ability to ensure peace and believes he can do so again if elected president.
