What Purpose Do the Upcoming CSTO Exercises Serve? Statement

The upcoming exercises of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which will take place in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan, are not directed against third countries. This was stated by the head of the CSTO Joint Staff, Andrey Serdyukov, as reported by TASS.

"I would like to emphasize that the planned activities with the CSTO forces (Collective Forces) are aimed at protecting the independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty of the member states of the organization on a collective basis, fully comply with international norms and are not directed against other countries," he said.

Andrey Serdyukov also announced that representatives from non-CSTO member states, including Algeria, Egypt, India, Iran, China, Mongolia, Pakistan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the UN Secretariat, the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Executive Committee of the CIS, and the Anti-Terrorism Center have been invited as observers to the CSTO exercises planned in Kyrgyzstan from September 3 to 15.

It is also noted that in the autumn, CSTO exercises will be held in Kazakhstan (“Indestructible Brotherhood-2024”), Kyrgyzstan (“Interaction-2024,” “Search-2024,” “Echelon-2024”), and Tajikistan (“Border-2024”).
