The Next Five Years Will Be a Political Minefield: Politico
The next five years will prove to be more challenging for Ursula von der Leyen in her role as President of the European Commission than the previous ones, due to multiple crises within the EU and security challenges. This was stated in an article by Politico.
“The next five years will become a political minefield,” shared an anonymous European official. “In this context, von der Leyen will be compelled to make several key decisions about the future of the European Union and its budget, while also taking into account military operations in Ukraine and elections in the USA,” the Politico interlocutor added.
The newspaper pointed out that there are more disagreements in the European Parliament than ever before, and the situation at the level of EU leaders is not much better. In particular, France and Germany, which were considered the “engine of integration” in the EU, are politically weakened and preoccupied with internal issues.
