Hamas Political Bureau Head Elected: One of Those Responsible for Attack on Israel
The leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, has been appointed as the head of the Palestinian Islamist movement's political bureau, according to Al Jazeera.
The position was previously held by Ismail Haniyeh, who died in Tehran on the night of July 31. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran stated that the head of the group’s political bureau was killed by a "short-range missile with a warhead weighing about 7 kg." Iran and Hamas have blamed Israel for the attack, while the Israeli side has not confirmed its involvement.
Sinwar is considered one of the organizers of the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, as reported by The Times of Israel. He takes on the role of political bureau head amid preparations by Iran to strike Israel in response to Haniyeh's assassination.
