Thousands Take to the Streets in Istanbul to Support Palestine
Thousands gathered in Istanbul on Saturday to demonstrate in memory of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, who was killed in Iran. The authorities implemented heightened security measures in the area of the event, and there were no reports of incidents, according to TRT Haber.
The protest, which occurred simultaneously in several countries, was organized by Turkish non-governmental organizations. Haber notes that Haniyeh was initially the initiator of these protests, having called for demonstrations worldwide on August 3 to support the residents of Gaza.
Demonstrators in Istanbul held banners with slogans such as “Free Palestine,” “Israel, Get Out of Gaza,” and “Our Hearts are with Hamas, Our Support is for Resistance.”
