Russia, as a significant player, is interested in helping two countries normalize relations: Peskov
The Kremlin has not clarified whether a meeting between the leaders of Turkey and Syria can take place in Moscow in August, but has noted that many countries, including Russia, are interested in helping the two nations normalize their relations.
“Indeed, the agenda includes facilitating certain communications at various levels between representatives of Turkey and Syria. Many countries and, of course, Russia, as a significant player in the region, are interested in helping the two nations normalize their relations. This is very important for the entire region,” presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
He added that the normalization of relations between Damascus and Ankara is crucial both for the political resolution of the Syrian conflict and for stability across the entire region.
Commenting on foreign media reports that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Syrian President Bashar Assad may meet in Moscow in August, Peskov noted, “I cannot say anything more specific at this time.”
