We Will Not Allow Putin to Threaten Europe: Biden
US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron expressed political solidarity on the ongoing wars in Ukraine and Israel, against the backdrop of continued tension over the international community's response to both conflicts, reports Politico.
Macron first thanked Biden for the decisive role the US has played in helping Ukraine in its fight against Russia’s invasion. He also expressed support for Biden’s peace proposal regarding the resolution of the war in Gaza.
Subsequently, Biden addressed the unbreakable bond between the US and France and welcomed earlier news of the release of four Israeli hostages. He also discussed the $61 billion defense aid package for Ukraine, which Congress approved after months of debate, reaffirming the US commitment to the war efforts.
“You know that Putin is not going to stop in Ukraine. All of Europe is going to be under threat. The United States will not allow that to happen... we will not pull back,” Biden stated. “This week we showed the world once again the strength of our allies and what we can achieve by working together,” added the US President.
The statements to the press were made following a personal meeting between the two presidents and marked the culmination of Biden's two-day ceremonial events.
