British Ambassador in Mexico Dismissed After Gun Incident, Financial Times Reports
The British Ambassador to Mexico was dismissed earlier this year after a video surfaced showing him aiming a handgun at a staff member of the embassy. According to the Financial Times, John Benjamin was on an official visit to two Mexican states known for drug cartel activity when he took the gun from the vehicle he was traveling in and pointed it at one of the employees.
The video, which depicts the incident, was published on a microblog by an anonymous user who commented, "In a country where daily murders are carried out by drug dealers, he dares to joke around." The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has not officially commented on Benjamin's position. However, the government’s official website states that he was the British Ambassador to Mexico from 2021 to 2024.
