Torosyan Comments on Archbishop Bagrat's Meeting with Political Forces

There is a mechanism for the formation of power by the people, and that is free and fair elections. This was stated by Arsen Torosyan, a deputy from the ruling Civil Contract party, in a social media post regarding Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan's meeting with political forces.

“Can you imagine a whole 40 political forces? Ultimately, are these political forces or merely political remnants? Let's look at the numbers to see how many of these organizations or individuals can actually be considered 'political forces,'” Torosyan wrote, detailing that “25 political forces participated in the snap parliamentary elections of 2021, of which only two crossed the threshold of 4 or 6 percent (for parties and alliances, respectively). One is our political force, the Civil Contract party, which received 53.9% of the votes, and the other is the Armenia alliance, which secured 21.1% of the votes. The coalition that came in third, the ‘I Have Honor’ alliance, did not cross the 6% threshold and entered the parliament with 5.22% of the votes due to the requirement that there must be at least three political forces present in the parliament according to our electoral legislation. Of course, both opposition groups essentially fell apart shortly after the parliament's work began, but that is another conversation,” he specified.

Among the 40 are also newly established political forces that have not yet participated in parliamentary elections, although some have already taken part in the recent Yerevan municipal elections, which, according to Torosyan, are significantly less influential than the parliamentary elections and again did not surpass the passing threshold, while others have emerged from the 25.
