I Will Cut Off My Hands and Give Nothing from Tavush: Khandanian
In 2021, the government that came to power in Armenia with a peace agenda has the authority to make efforts to achieve peace. Today, during a conversation with journalists in the National Assembly, the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee and a member of the Civil Contract faction, Sargsyan Khandanian, stated this.
The journalists reminded him of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's words that there are 3 million prime ministers in our country and added that at least a few hundred prime ministers in Tavush are currently opposed to the ongoing process.
“I will cut off my hands and give nothing from Tavush; nobody is giving anything from Tavush,” said Khandanian.
According to the Civil Contract deputy, as a result of negotiations, they have finally managed to achieve that the Alma-Ata declaration be accepted as the political basis for demarcation. “This is a very important signal that the process, in general, should continue in this logic, and this is an acceptable option for us,” he noted.
He mentioned that at this stage, the operating procedures of the demarcation commissions should be agreed upon. “The area that belongs to the Republic of Armenia should be delineated in such a way that those territories remain under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Armenia,” emphasized the deputy.
He added that currently, a mutually agreed demarcation process is underway from both sides. Khandanian stated that when the demarcation process is completed and the relevant agreement is signed between the parties, it will be presented to the parliaments of both countries for ratification.
