Azerbaijan Demands Compensation from Armenia for Environmental Damage
Azerbaijan is demanding that Armenia "cease violations of the Bern Convention and pay compensation for damage to the environment." This was stated in a statement from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Based on the abundant evidence of extensive environmental destruction carried out by Armenia during the 30-year occupation of Azerbaijani territories, Azerbaijan initiated its first arbitration process on January 18, 2023. The first hearing on Azerbaijan's claim in the context of interstate arbitration under the Bern Convention for the conservation of wild fauna and flora and natural habitats took place on April 12, 2024, at the Peace Palace in The Hague," the enemy's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in its statement.
According to official Baku, this will set a precedent as an important step in environmental litigation.
