Ministry of Education Provides Clarification on University Consolidation Process
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia has announced that working groups have been created as part of the process of consolidating state universities and integrating research organizations.
Recent media reports have led to misunderstandings regarding the list published, which pertains to organizations included in working groups, rather than mergers or consolidations.
In connection with the issue, the Higher Education and Science Committee of the Ministry has provided clarification, stating that in July 2023, at the invitation of the Minister of Education, state universities and scientific organizations operating in Armenia were invited to discuss and submit conceptual proposals regarding the consolidation of state universities and the integration with research organizations by February 15, 2024.
Six areas have been proposed for organizing the consolidation process, and relevant proposals have been received by the deadline, based on which preliminary compositions of the working groups have been formed in the previously announced six areas.
Beneficiary organizations and other organizations operating in the field have suggested representatives to participate in working groups, where issues related to the consolidation process, as well as the structure and management model of clusters, will be discussed in the near future.
