Electricity Disruption During Government Session Addressed by HETC

From 2024 to 2030, one of our projects is to ensure continuous electricity supply to the small center of Yerevan. This was stated by David Grigoryan, the Technical Director of HETC, at a press conference held today.

“By studying Yerevan's issues, we have conducted work to address the power deficit that arose in Yerevan from 2019 to 2023. Due to the intense construction in the city center in 2016-17, a serious power deficit emerged, which posed a significant challenge, and all multi-apartment buildings in that area were powered by temporary schemes. The next step is the continuous electricity supply program, which we aim to implement within two years. We are in negotiations with the city hall, as implementing technical interventions or reconstructions in the city center requires permits and certain inconveniences, but we will succeed,” he detailed.

According to him, it is planned to implement projects to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for the city of Yerevan by 2030.

Grigoryan also referred to the electricity disruption that occurred during the Armenian government meeting a few weeks ago: “From the consumer's perspective, when there is a shutdown, it is immediately attributed to HETC as if HETC is responsible for the disconnection. The energy system's structure consists of producers, transmitters, distributors, and consumers. All four components have their responsibilities. There were noisy disconnections; during the government meeting, there was a shutdown-connection, and the commission has analyzed and reported that the disconnection was due to an accident in the high-voltage electrical network, and accidents there lead to large-scale outages.”

It is worth recalling that on November 23, 2023, during the regular meeting of the government, there was a power outage, and government members spent several minutes in darkness.
