Authorities Decide to Make Certain Concessions: What Will Happen to the Transportation Price Increase Project
According to the "Zhoghovurd" daily, "Yesterday, members of the ruling coalition held a closed meeting in the National Assembly with Yerevan's Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan. Also present was Vahe Qalumyan, the head of the Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment Issues.
"Zhoghovurd" has learned that the ruling party's deputies discussed the transportation price increase project with the deputy mayor. It is noteworthy that after a significant outcry from the public, the authorities have decided to make certain concessions to mitigate the wave of discontent.
The ruling party members sense that after the increase in parking fees, a sharp rise in transportation costs could ignite serious tensions among the public, and they may no longer be able to control the situation. As a result, they have decided to concede, for example, by reducing the extent of the fare increase.
Yesterday, Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan, who is one of the coordinators of the transportation price increase project, presented to the members of the ruling party the changes they plan to make to the project so that it can be fully prepared and presented again at the council meeting in a short time.
According to our sources, the ruling party deputies shared the view that to avoid further exacerbating the situation, certain concessions should be made and that they should refrain from increases for the time being or implement them in phases rather than all at once."
