Vehicles Will Be Parked for Free on Sundays in Central Yerevan
The Yerevan City Council has adopted a proposal to implement a parking exemption for vehicles in paid parking areas of the capital on Sundays. Member of the council's "Public Voice" faction, Vahan Avagyan, presented the proposal, noting that if the aim is to unload the city center and reduce traffic congestion, traffic load on Sundays is significantly lower.
Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan responded, stating that the proposal is logical and generally aligns with their objectives. "I can say that the unloading has occurred even a bit more than we expected," the mayor noted, adding that more visible results will emerge in the future. "In spring, it will be clearer what specific impact this project alone has had," he emphasized, noting that they initially declared that this decision was not made to collect additional revenue but rather to unload the Center.
Accordingly, vehicles will be exempt from parking fees on Sundays in the equipped paid parking areas in Yerevan's zones 'A' and 'B'. The proposal was adopted with 34 votes in favor.
