President Signs Bill Concerning Citizens Over 27 Who Have Not Completed Mandatory Military Service
MP Hayk Sargsyan from the ruling party announced on his Facebook page that the President of the Republic has signed a package of draft laws fully adopted by the National Assembly. According to the legislation, citizens who are over 27 years old and have avoided mandatory military service can take advantage of the following options to be exempted from criminal liability:
- Complete military service for a period of 24 months,
- Complete military service for a period of 12 months and pay 2.5 million drams,
- Complete military service for a period of 6 months and pay 5 million drams,
- Complete military service for a period of 1 month and pay 8 million drams,
- Pay 15 million drams instead of military service.
Secondly, males acquiring Armenian citizenship after the age of 27 are required to serve for a period of 1 year or pay 2.5 million drams into the state budget. Thirdly, citizens who have registered for military service after turning 27 are also obligated to serve or pay the corresponding fees.
