What the Unified Ticketing System Project is Aimed at: The Deputy Mayor Responds
The discussion of the project aimed at implementing a unified ticketing system is on the agenda for February 13, and we are open to suggestions. This was stated by Deputy Mayor Suren Grigoryan during a meeting with reporters.
“The project is intended to come into effect in September 2024, which is the timeframe when we expect the arrival of new 171 buses that are 8.6 meters long,” Grigoryan said. He mentioned that various ticket products have been developed, which are intended for different groups.
“A tourist who is staying in Yerevan for a few days finds it illogical to purchase a monthly, quarterly, or annual ticket. The fare that exists today, and even the fare proposed in the project, will not lead to cost recovery. This means that apart from the fare paid by the passenger, public subsidies will need to be allocated to cover the cost of the journey,” the Deputy Mayor noted.
Grigoryan emphasized that the project aims to significantly reduce the large volume of subsidies. “With this change, we will not have the situation where our transportation system is self-sustaining; there will still be a need for additional external funding. This project is aimed at having a differentiated approach to different passengers, meaning that those who need to be subsidized will be subsidized, and those who do not will not be,” he added.
We remind you that it was previously reported that the fare for public transport in Yerevan will change, ranging from 90 to 500 drams.
