How Many Drivers Have Lost Their Licenses This Year
As of December 7, 2023, a total of 2,171 driving licenses have been suspended in the Republic of Armenia, while 100 individuals have been deprived of their right to drive due to multiple suspensions. This information was provided by the Public Relations and Media Department of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.
The police noted that the data was provided based on the records from the traffic police's computer database regarding administrative violations detected through video or photo evidence of traffic rule violations.
According to reports, in 2020, a total of 2,175 driving licenses were suspended due to the consumption of points, while 7 individuals were deprived of their right to drive due to multiple suspensions. In 2021, the number of suspended licenses increased significantly to 4,809, with 114 individuals losing their driving rights due to multiple suspensions. In 2022, the incidents of driving license suspensions slightly decreased to 2,522, while 145 people were deprived of their rights due to multiple suspensions.
It is worth noting that the points system has been in effect since January 1, 2020. In Armenia, each driver is given a limit of 9 penalty points for violations of traffic rules. Points are deducted for about 100 potential violations, with the most serious 25 violations accounting for point deductions. If a driver exhausts all 9 points within a year, they are banned from driving for six months. After this period, they will receive a new set of 9 points. If they deplete these points by the end of the year, they face a one-year suspension of their driving rights, which can only be restored after passing an examination.
