Video: Mount Etna Erupts
Mount Etna on the island of Sicily has erupted. This was reported by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy. Scientists state that magma has begun to erupt from the southeastern crater of the volcano, which is accompanied by ash emissions from the slopes located to the north of the volcano and a characteristic rumbling associated with the release of significant volumes of gas. Specialists continue to monitor the volcano, analyzing images from a network of cameras.
It is noted that this eruption does not affect the operation of the nearby airport. Recall that Etna is the most active volcano in Europe. On August 14, the operations at Catania Airport were temporarily suspended due to the eruption of Mount Etna. Passengers were asked to arrive at the airport only after consulting with airlines.
Earlier, a new island was formed during an underwater volcanic eruption in Japan.
