WATCH: "Why are those who perpetrated March 1, looted the country, and privatized it not in prison?" - Alen Simonyan
National Assembly President Alen Simonyan today addressed the remarks made by Gegham Manukyan, a member of the "Armenia" faction, who spoke about the shortcomings in judicial processes.
“I have a different issue with the judicial system: why are those who should have long been behind bars not in prison?” Simonyan stated.
According to him, the justice being served is, indeed, not lucrative for many.
“Those who committed offenses on March 1, falsified elections, beat people, looted this country, privatized it, gave properties in exchange for debts, then took them back, then handed them down to their sons, and created monopolies—why are those people not in prison?” Simonyan pointed out.
He added that, according to international organizations, the level of democracy in Armenia has never been this high.
“There is no concept of political prisoners in the Republic of Armenia,” he concluded.
