Over 600 Suspects Linked to Coup Plotters Arrested in Turkey

More than 600 people have been arrested in Turkey on suspicion of ties to the banned FETO organization, which local authorities consider a terrorist group and blame for the 2016 coup attempt. This was announced by Ali Erlikaya, the head of the Republic's Ministry of Interior. The information was reported by TASS.

“Simultaneous operations in 77 provinces resulted in the arrest of 611 suspects linked to the terrorist ‘FETO’,” the minister wrote on his X microblog.

On July 15, 2016, a group of military personnel and civilian conspirators attempted to overthrow the legitimate government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Turkey. The two-day standoff resulted in 252 deaths and 2,200 injuries. Turkish authorities accuse FETO's leader, cleric Fethullah Gülen, who currently resides in the United States, of orchestrating the coup.
