Number of Protest Participants Arrested Revealed
Four participants of the protest held near the Artsakh representation in Yerevan have been arrested. The press service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs informed Sputnik Armenia that they were arrested on grounds of suspected physical coercion.
“Four individuals have been arrested and taken to the Arabkir police department,” the police announced.
The Human Rights Defender’s office has also reported that a rapid response team has been dispatched to the Arabkir police department. Currently, the grounds and reasons for the deprivation of liberty of these individuals are being investigated, as well as the state of their rights protection in custody, with private discussions taking place.
The Human Rights Defender calls for restraint and urges everyone to abstain from any form of violence.
It is worth recalling that today, hundreds of citizens forcibly displaced from Artsakh gathered near the representation to protest against the decision to cease salary payments to the employees of Artsakh’s state institutions. Initially, they were addressed outside, and later, inside, by the President of Artsakh, Samvel Shahramanyan.
