Lithuania Reaffirms Support for Armenia's Territorial Integrity: Ingrida Šimonytė
Lithuania reaffirms its support for Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. This was stated by Lithuania's Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė after her meeting with the Prime Minister of Armenia in Yerevan.
“Our nations have long-standing friendly ties. We share similar historical experiences, experiences of oppression, struggles for independence, choosing democracy, and adhering to it,” said the Lithuanian Prime Minister.
Šimonytė emphasized that she is proud that Lithuania was the first country to recognize Armenia's independence in 1991. “I am happy to be here today and reaffirm Lithuania's support for Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as your government's commitment to continue building a democratic, reformed Armenia,” she stated.
Šimonytė also mentioned that Lithuania intends to support the deepening of relations between the European Union and Armenia. “I reiterated my sincere desire to see an increase in the presence of the European Union in Armenia. I reaffirmed that Lithuania intends to support the deepening of EU-Armenia relations,” Šimonytė said.
She noted that the EU remains Armenia's main partner in the reform processes. Lithuania is ready to enhance its expert support for the implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement between the EU and Armenia, as well as for the overall reform process ongoing in Armenia.
The Prime Ministers discussed how Lithuania's expertise could be utilized in various sectors. Šimonytė is convinced that the success of the reform process in Armenia will help strengthen Armenia's democracy, increase resilience, and secure Armenia's rightful place in the community of democracies.
“An independent, sovereign, secure, and prosperous democratic Armenia, as well as peace and stability in the South Caucasus, are our common goals. Lithuania is committed to working together towards achieving these objectives,” concluded the Lithuanian Prime Minister.
