Claiming that Armenia has abandoned Artsakh is the most unfair accusation that can be made at all. This statement was made by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a Q&A session with the government in the National Assembly, noting that the Armenian government has provided over $1 billion in funding to Artsakh over the past three years.

“In my strict personal opinion, before the blockade of the Lachin corridor, Artsakh lacked nothing in terms of self-defense,” emphasized Pashinyan.

The Prime Minister assured that he did not say Armenia would not intervene in military operations against Artsakh, but stated that the goal is to involve Armenia in military actions, which the Armenian side will not undertake, though it provided full political support to Artsakh. “The main target of that provocation has been and continues to be Armenia, and as Prime Minister, my primary task is to ensure the security of Armenia, including for our sisters and brothers in Artsakh. Imagine that there would be no state that could meet their primary needs. We say that we need international assistance, but we are not outstretching our hands around the world, asking for two pennies to prevent our brothers and sisters from starving to death,” declared Pashinyan.

He did not deny having stated that there is no immediate danger to the population of Artsakh, but his motivation was to prevent threats from escalating against those people. “At that moment, I could have made a statement that would have led to 300 more deaths. My goal was to ensure that no one would lose a hair from their head. And I am glad that after my statement, 105,000 of our citizens managed to reach Armenia, despite the difficulties, suffering, and psychological distress,” said Pashinyan.
