Iran and the US to Conduct Prisoner Swap Today
Iran and the United States will conduct a prisoner swap today, September 18, in a "five for five" format. This was announced by Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani during a weekly press conference.
"Five Iranian citizens held in US prisons and five Americans imprisoned in Iran will be released today," said Kanaani, as reported by the IRNA agency.
The official added that two Iranian citizens are returning home voluntarily, one Iranian is reuniting with their family in a third country, while two others wish to remain in the US.
Kanaani also announced that Iran's assets, which had been frozen in South Korean banks due to US pressure, are now fully at Iran's disposal as of September 18. According to a deal reached between Tehran and Washington, $6 billion that had been frozen in South Korean banks due to US sanctions has now become accessible to Iran.
