Traveler Attempts to Smuggle 62 Large Diamonds in Underwear at Moscow Airport

Customs officials at Vnukovo Airport in Moscow discovered 62 large diamonds and several small ones hidden in the underwear of a traveler arriving from the UAE. This was reported by the Press Service of the Federal Customs Service of Russia (FTS).

Customs officers detained a 39-year-old citizen of Uzbekistan during baggage inspection at Vnukovo Airport. His suitcase was searched, revealing 13 boxes containing Apple, Samsung, and Sony equipment, as well as 40 GIA and IGI certificates for precious stones.

When approached with the suggestion of smuggling, the man responded that he had nothing to declare. However, the truth was uncovered during a personal search when officials discovered that the traveler had crafted a cash in his underwear, accommodating 62 large stones and scattered small ones.

Subsequently, the owner of the baggage claimed he had worked for a major airline in the UAE, flown to Russia to visit relatives, and brought gifts. He stated that everything was legitimate, claiming that the gifts were worth no more than $17,000, and insisted that all was in accordance with customs regulations.

The press service clarified that customs officials have opened a criminal case against the individual. By court order, the violator has been detained.
