European Parliament Committee Calls on Turkey to Recognize the Armenian Genocide

The European Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee has called on Ankara to recognize the Armenian Genocide. This is stated in the committee's report concerning Turkey, as reported by the Armenian Representation in the EU.

The committee expresses support for the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey, based on the interests of reconciliation, regional stability, and security.

It urges the swift implementation of agreements made by special representatives, such as the opening of airspace and the borders between the two countries, and welcomes the progress made so far, noting with satisfaction the presence of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the inauguration ceremony of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

“The committee calls on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide to pave the way for genuine reconciliation between the Turkish and Armenian peoples,” the report states.

Furthermore, the document includes another call directed at Turkey to fully fulfill its obligations to protect Armenian cultural heritage.
