Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Azerbaijan's Decision to Block Movement of Red Cross Vehicles
The spokesperson of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ani Badalyan, has addressed Azerbaijan's decision to block the movement of vehicles belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) through the Lachin corridor on her Twitter account.
“Since the illegal establishment of a checkpoint in the Lachin corridor, Azerbaijan has continuously obstructed even the movement of the International Committee of the Red Cross, including the evacuation of individuals for health reasons, contrary to the rulings of the International Court of Justice. Additional international efforts and actions are necessary to lift the seven-month blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh in order to prevent ethnic cleansing,” she wrote.
It is noteworthy that Azerbaijan's state border service has temporarily closed the Lachin corridor, the only road connecting Armenia and Artsakh, at the beginning of the corridor, claiming that illegal attempts to transport various types of contraband goods by vehicles belonging to the International Committee of the Red Cross have been uncovered.
