It is hard to surprise us, but President Macron sometimes manages to do so. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova during a press briefing, commenting on French President Emmanuel Macron's statements made during a meeting with representatives of various influential circles in Marseille on June 28. Macron claimed that he is exerting pressure on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev regarding the Artsakh issue and that he is the only one with a clear position and message on this matter.

“I can say that after such statements, an impression is created that Mr. Macron's bravery is matched only by his modesty. We continue to be surprised by the characteristics attributed to the French president and the pathos with which he talks about his personal role and contribution to the resolution process of Nagorno-Karabakh. Unfortunately, he has not said anything about the practical results of such fruitful work; there is a process, but no results. Perhaps he hasn’t mentioned them because no one has ever seen those results. Moreover, no one has seen any results not only regarding France's mediation in the resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh but also in other international issues that President Macron has repeatedly undertaken,” noted Zakharova.

She added that Moscow has long given up on the illusion that France is capable of making a positive contribution to the resolution of the complex problems in Nagorno-Karabakh.
