Today's Yerevan-Batumi Train Will Not Continue Beyond Tbilisi Due to Ongoing Work

The Yerevan-Batumi train service will not reach its destination due to recovery work being carried out in Georgia. This was announced to Sputnik Armenia by Ruben Grdzelyan, the press secretary of South Caucasus Railways (HKE).

It was previously reported that the Batumi-Yerevan train, which was unable to reach its departure point the day before due to a landslide, would arrive in Yerevan. Meanwhile, today at 14:00, a train departed from Yerevan towards Batumi with 250 passengers on board.

The Georgian Railway LLC has officially confirmed that recovery work is underway at the landslide site. As a result, passengers departing from Yerevan will reach Tbilisi around 01:00, Grdzelyan stated. Among the 250 passengers, 50 are heading to Tbilisi. Approximately 200 passengers will reach Batumi by bus, at the expense of South Caucasus Railways.

The next Yerevan-Batumi service is scheduled for July 4. HKE does not rule out the possibility that the train may eventually reach the Georgian resort.

For his part, Paata Mujiri, Deputy Director for Passenger Transportation at the Georgian Railway, stated that the company's employees are actively working to clear the tracks at the Marelisi station in the Kharaagauuli region, which has been affected by a landslide due to heavy rains. He emphasized that train operations will only resume once it is confirmed to be safe.
